Blog Promotion Tip – Guest Posting

Posted by beccablogger on February 9, 2009

What is Guest Posting? Guest posting is a great form of blogger networking by posting an article of your own, on somebody elses  blog.  Occasionally bloggers will advertise that they are looking for guest posters, so keep an eye out.  If not, find a blog you like and think your article subjects would go well in.  Write to the blog owner and ask if they are accepting guest-posting.

Guest posting is a great way to show your content to a new reader base.   Since many blogs which have guest posting allow you to link back to your own blog, you are likely to generate lots of new readers and subscriptions if your articles go over well.

Two very important things to keep in mind when guest posting.  Write for the other blogs fan-base.  If your articles don’t mesh well with the current content on that blog, do you think anyone will read it? No they will skip right over it, and you might annoy the person who let you guest post as well.

Don’t attempt to guest write articles out of your blogs element.  You want to draw people to your blog through your guest post.  If you  guest post a  great article on a new online game, but your blog is about your art collection, people will be dissapointed when they go to your blog and not come back.

Remember good etiquette! Do not spam articles to a variety of blogs hoping someone will guest post it for you.  This is rude, and will produce the opposite effect of what your seeking.  Write a short, nice letter to the blog owner explaining why you want to guest post, and the idea you want to guest post about.  Include any relevant links to your blog so they have the chance to see your writing style and reader base.

If a blog does let you geust post, it is always nice to offer a link back to them.  Even if it is a short post in your own blog to the effect of “Check out my guest post at susiquesblog.” This way, the other blog owner can gain some readers of their own.

The benefits of allowing people to guest post on your blog.  Some people think, ‘wait a minute, why would I want to do that? It will draw traffic away from my blog!’ Well, there are two reasons:

One, content.  It is always good to continually update your blog with unique and interesting content.  By allowing guest posting, your getting new content for free!

Two, whoever you allowed to guest post will certainly link to that post in their blog.  This creates traffic two ways.  People see you allow guess posting and come read your blog to see if they might be able to contribute.  Also, people will visit your blog to view their favorite readers guess post, giving you more readers.  And three, the link from one blog to another is great for SEO or search engine optimization.

If you have a new blog you would like featured here, and plan to allow guest posting.  Let me know and I will add it to the blog information.
